Shenandoah: in Progress

Weekend house for a Washington DC couple, which is situated on a West Virginia mountain top overlooking the Shenandoah Mountain Range. To address a client's modest budget, limited local construction labor and expertise, and intense exposure to the elements, we experimented with modular systems that could be fabricated offsite and easily transported to them mountaintop and assembled with basic skills. The digitally fabricated modular facade, for example, uses lightweight elastomeric closed-cell polymer foam panels that interlock with glazing to bring indirect light into the entire house.
